The idea of attempting to solve problems by breaking them into parts is attractive. To many people the idea that if you improve the parts you improve the whole seems obvious.
The opposite idea, that improving the parts may not improve the whole (and indeed, may often make it worse) is counter intuitive, it seems to run opposite to ‘common sense’.
In this book you will learn the principles of Systemic Thinking. We will explore, with examples, questions such as how to recognize the type of complexity you are dealing with as an aid to understanding the purpose and behavior of the system.
