Description

The Fishing Trip is a memoir that traces an epic journey by three friends, one American and two Swedes, through time and space as they uncover and then seek to reconcile man’s insatiable thirst for energy with climate-related threats to the earth’s survival.  Based on journals kept and pictures taken during 40 summers of fishing together, this is ostensibly a series of simple fishing stories about three guys from two different cultures, and how they transition over forty years from worms to flies, from counting the catch to protecting the species, and from matching the hatch to worshiping the watershed.  But at a deeper level the stories are about relationships: men with one another, fathers with sons, men with fish, fish with rivers, rivers with valleys, and valleys with the societies that inhabit them.
