Description

I have had an idea for a few years now to create an art series of my memories of growing up in the small coal mining village Of Pegswood, in Northumberland. I grew up in a typical North East Colliery Row between the mighty pit heaps and the colliery. So when this Covid-19 lockdown period began, I decided to use all this free time time to begin working on my idea, so I started creating my memories, I decided to call them Pinnie Hinnies. The term “Hinnies” is the local name for woman in the North East, and were know to wear a variety of pinnies or aprons, hence the name of the series Pinnie Hinnies. I sketched them on my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9” using an Apple Pencil (2nd Gen) in the Procreate app. I initially just wanted to sketch them as ideas and references for paintings in acrylics and oils later on, but as soon as I finished one sketch and coloured it in, I began another, and then another, pretty soon this was all I wanted to do! My Pinnie Hinnies memories are growing weekly.
