Description

#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER • Far more than a superb memoir about the highest levels of professional tennis, Open is the engrossing story of a remarkable life. "Agassi’s memoir is just as entrancing as his tennis game.” —Time

“Honest in a way that such books seldom are.” —The New York Times

Andre Agassi had his life mapped out for him before he left the crib. Groomed to be a tennis champion by his moody and demanding father, by the age of twenty-two Agassi had won the first of his eight grand slams and achieved wealth, celebrity, and the game’s highest honors. But as he reveals in this searching autobiography, off the court he was often unhappy and confused, unfulfilled by his great achievements in a sport he had come to resent.

Agassi writes candidly about his early success and his uncomfortable relationship with fame, his marriage to Brooke Shields, his growing interest in philanthropy, and—described in haunting, point-by-point detail—the highs and lows of his celebrated career.

Reviews

  • I terrific read — even if tennis isn’t your thing!

The behind-the-scenes stories and antidotes were intriguing. On the flip side, some of the play-by-play match reports could have been trimmed down (or eliminated) without curbing my enjoyment of the book at all.
  • This book was beautifully written. Charming and heartbreaking at the same time.

I’ve never read an autobiography about a tennis player, but this was wonderful. It’s really cool to get inside the head of Agassi as he battles through so many matches and I love the love story between he and Stephanie. The prep school he built in Vegas this crazy cool.

Although our games our different, the opponent is the same. “The mind is restless, Krishna, impetuous, self-willed, hard to train: to master the mind seems as difficult as to master the mighty winds.” Thank you for sharing, thank you.

…..the time or money on this book. A grown man who lives in misery because he can’t make his own decisions. Very depressing.

Simply written and honest recollection of a competitor’s life. It’s an easy read, gets a bit predictable toward the end.
  • Amazing!
