Description

“Beautiful….Compelling entertainment.” —New York Times

One of the most beloved novels of all time, The Thorn Birds, Colleen McCullough’s sweeping family saga of dreams, titanic struggles, dark passions, and forbidden love in the Australian Outback, returns to enthrall a new generation.

The Thorn Birds is a chronicle of three generations of Clearys—an indomitable clan of ranchers carving lives from a beautiful, hard land while contending with the bitterness, frailty, and secrets that penetrate their family. It is a poignant love story, a powerful epic of struggle and sacrifice, a celebration of individuality and spirit. Most of all, it is the story of the Clearys' only daughter, Meggie, and the haunted priest, Father Ralph de Bricassart—and the intense joining of two hearts and souls over a lifetime, a relationship that dangerously oversteps sacred boundaries of ethics and dogma.

“A heart-rending epic…truly marvelous.” —Chicago Tribune

From the moment I opened it I could not put it down. I fell in love with the characters the story line and was able to be instantly transported to that specific time period. The author makes it easy for the reader to create vivid mental imagery while reading!it is a very rare and difficult to do in the world of writing. This book is very well written and thought out. I enjoyed the ride so much when it was over I decided to read it again !! I was more attracted to the story after learning that I was named after meggie. And her character represents everything I wish to be. Courageous bold and strong. ! She had to be in order to go through all the pain and hardships she experienced through out her life. What she stands for and represents truly resonates with who I am as a person. This book is a definite must have ! I remember being so engulfed and consumed by the book I missed my stop on the train quite a few times. I also was asked about the book by other commuters who took an interest or recognized it from their past! It’s an amazing story. Though there are times of pain hurt and sorrow there are also times of joy and happiness ! I love how many multiple lessons and morals are learned as well from the first page to the last. That could explain why this author writes types of books I can’t get enough of. If you haven’t already purchased it I highly recommend you do. Once you begin reading this you’ll crave more ! It’s never left my book shelf. It’s a story that should be part of everyone’s collection. Simply a treasure xo

A better love story than Twilight and a better tragedy than Romeo & Juliet. I adore this book completely. What more can I say?
