Description

From New York Times bestselling author Kristen Ashley comes the new book in her River Rain Series, Making the Match.

Decades ago, tennis superstar Tom Pierce and “It Girl” Mika Stowe met at a party.

Mika fell in love. Tom was already in love with his wife. As badly as Tom wanted Mika as a friend, Mika knew it would hurt too much to be attracted to this amazing man and never be able to have him.

They parted ways for what they thought would be forever, only to reconnect just once, when unspeakable tragedy darkens Mika’s life.

Years later, the impossible happens.

A time comes when they’re both unattached.

But now Tom has made a terrible mistake. A mistake so damaging to the ones he loves, he feels he’ll never be redeemed.

Mika has never forgotten how far and how fast she fell when she met him, but Tom’s transgression is holding her distant from reaching out.

There are matchmakers in their midst, however.

And when the plot has been unleashed to make that match, Tom and Mika are thrown into an international intrigue that pits them against a Goliath of the sports industry.

Now they face a massive battle at the same time they’re navigating friendship, attraction, love, family, grief, redemption, two very different lives lived on two opposite sides of a continent and a box full of kittens.

I love me some KA, but this one was a little anti-climactic. I did LOVE Tom finding love and reading this felt like a much needed therapy session haha But it also has me super excited for the next book(s) as it felt like it set up multiple future stories.

I pre ordered , paid and got notification that the book was ready but it is only half the first chapter then stops. Looking forward to Apple Books figuring this out and fixing the issue so I can read it. I’m a big Kristin Ashley fan….
  • I would like to know why it stopped at chapter one.

So, there really are two sides to every story. And that sometimes, even the guy who did a bad thing isn't all bad. Characters who cheat and lie and are just generally not good people are usually a hard no for me. But that changed for me when I read this series. And I'll explain why later... I adored Mika so darn much. This woman has been through heartache and is a strong, fierce, talented and wonderful woman and single mother. She's raised a well-adjusted and spunky daughter after losing her partner. She's carried Tom Pierce in her heart, but not her life, since she met him 20 years earlier, when she was free and he was not. She gave up having a potentially wonderful friend at her back so as not to interfere with his marriage and not break her own heart. Tom is so much more than readers have previously seen. We know he's a talented and charming man who loves his children, will do anything for them, and has even somehow carved a positive friendship with his ex and her new husband. An ex he cheated on. And while that act was a few years in the past, it's still a factor. But he's also a generous, friendly, animals loving guy...and one who takes action when things hurt others. I love that Mika gives him a chance, even though she, I think, only suspects that he cheated on his ex. Tom is never anything but honest about that episode. Well, he admits it and takes the blame for it, as well as the breakup of his marriage. He just leaves out important details...like why he cheated. These two just fit, in a way I never saw him fitting with the ex. I love her daughter, Cadence so very much, and am hoping for her story one day!! She's a huge part of the story, as are all of the secondary characters...from Tom's kids Chloe (of, she's so extra), Sasha and Matt, to Mika's friend Nora and her assistant Teddy. Even her late partner, Rollo, adds to their story. Then there's his ex, Imogen. I didn't like her in the previous books. I thought there was just something too self-centered about her. And her behavior in this one tells me I was spot on. I know some readers will not like how her character is portrayed. I'm more than okay with it and frankly hope that happy little blended family isn't so strong in subsequent stories. Yeah, I hate her. I learned from reading Chasing Serenity, book two in the series, before reading the first one, After The Climb, that some characters are complex. And that they need their stories told, even is they may seem villainous. Or if they cheat/ And because my feelings towards Corey Szabo were complex, I knew I needed to give Tom at least a chance to prove to me that he was not a lost cause. So thanks, KA, for writing characters that are multi-faceted and complex. We might not like them all, but I'm glad that their stories are told. Now about your next couple....I'm hoping it's not who I think it is! lol
