Once again I’m blown away by yet again another amazing story. So well written. The authors writing style is one that just pulls you in. It’s almost upsetting when you finish because you just want the story to continue.

Lakes delivers a perfectly timed contemporary political spin on the timeless classic Cinderella. This was a nice mesh of classic tale and current DC dirty underbelly blackmail. The only thing it didn't have was a dash of magic to turn a pumpkin into a carriage. Harry and Megan's wedding is ramping up on the news every day and this story falls right into a fairytale letting the reader imagine themselves being swept up by a foreign prince as well. I liked the altruistic nature of Aria and her love of country and her father's memory and legacy. A difficult set of ideals to hold onto in the current political climate, nevertheless she has until her stepmother begins to manipulate her career for her own personal gain, landing Aria in a impossible and potentially illegal position. Aria finds herself back in the first job she had as a rookie in the DC political machine, having been replaced by her worthless step-sister at her plum spot reporting to her favorite senator. Enter big Henry crashing into to an unaware Aria lost in thought at the Washington Monument. He isn't entirely truthful about well anything about himself aside from his interest in Aria and his fondness for rugby, his family and country. I like Henry from the start. I could see the appeal of meeting a pretty girl who doesn't know your station and doesn't treat you as such, only as everyone else. He doesn't out right lie about himself only over generalizes his family business. I enjoyed the sweet getting to know you period and the inevitable attention and steamy times. Lakes gave Henry and Aria good chemistry and plenty of opportunities to grow to love each other. It's a whirlwind but not insta-love. The story is strong and I could feel the frustration and helplessness from Aria in protecting her father legacy from scandal. It only takes one news cycle to ruin a life's work in DC. I was satisfied with the way the story wrapped up and stayed true to the original tale within modern constraints and no magic. Lol If I had to pick one thing that I didn't enjoy it was the over descriptiveness of some areas of the book. I would encourage anyone who enjoys a good happily ever after to 1-click right now.

Aria was trying to live her life, she had a job she enjoys being a senators aide and working to make to improve the way life is lived. But her stepmother is a monster and melded into her life and made it so she was fired from her job and placed into a job she had 8 years prior, so that she could find her information she could sell. Because of all of this she was walking in the park on the way from one job to the new one and she was tripped by the best looking man she had ever seen. Henry apologized and offered to take her out, bus since she was late she declined his offer. Not taking no he offered tomorrow for lunch. Doubting he’s show she accepted. Will Henry even show? Will they even have anything in common if he does?

ARC for honest review with no compensation Aria is a modern day Cinderella who has had a harder life after her father passed away and her wicked stepmother is determined to make it even harder and force Aria to give her trade secrets that could lead Aria to be prosecuted. While trying to figure a way out of helping her wicked stepmother Aria is literally run over by the most handsome, charming, totally hot Henry Prescott. Little does Aria know that Henry is not who she thinks but he could be the answer to her prayers. Will Aria let Henry help her win and take down her stepmother or will she just continue to take the verbal abuse and never get out from under her stepmother's thumb?

Aria and Henry. This version of Cinderella, and one you should not dare pass up reading. I know there are many watered down versions of the Cinderella storyline. This one is unique, and who doesn’t love a prince who finds love with a girl who has family trying to make her her life miserable?! And did I say a very hot version as well! It’s Audrey her nasty stepmom (gives stepmoms a bad name) basically is blackmailing Aria in the political world. Does it feel real? Yes! It’s why I so enjoyed this story. I fell in love with Henry and Aria, hope we can see more of their story. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to them. An amazing story and needs to be on everyone’s must read list.
  • Wonderful retelling of a classic

I loved this retelling of an a classic fairytale. Everything is in there, an orphaned girl, the evil stepmother, the lazy stepsister, the fairy godmother, the prince and the friends that she relies on. Aria loves her father so much and doesnt want his memory to be tarnished so she gives into the blackmail from her stepmother. Her "knight in shining armor" runs over her in from of the Washington Monument. And Henry can't stop but take over her heart. This is a sweet story but has some heat and is very well done. My emotions were all over in this one. Empathy for Aria in the loss of her parents. Happiness when she falls in love. Nervousness for what she must do for her stepmother. Anger at her stepmother. And pure joy for how this all turns out.

The original Cinderella story is my all time favorite Disney movie. I loved this Cinderella story Krista has thought up. A wicked stepmother who will do anything to get what she wants and reminds Aria she’s nothing to her. A lazy stepsister and of course Prince Charming. Henry sweeps her off her feet literally. They date for weeks and she don’t know who he really is. Aria feels like she is in a bad dream until she meets him. He makes her laugh and to truly feel love again. A fun loving book that will keep you reading wondering what Aria will do. Give her stepmom what she wants or get herself out of it. Pick up the book it’s a great read. I received a advanced copy for a voluntary honest review.
