#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER AND THE PERFECT HOLIDAY GIFT

A Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick

“Beautifully written and incredibly funny, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is about the importance of friendship and human connection. I fell in love with Eleanor, an eccentric and regimented loner whose life beautifully unfolds after a chance encounter with a stranger; I think you will fall in love, too!” —Reese Witherspoon

No one’s ever told Eleanor that life should be better than fine.

Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she’s thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy.

But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond’s big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one.

Soon to be a major motion picture produced by Reese Witherspoon, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is the smart, warm, and uplifting story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey as she realizes. . .

The only way to survive is to open your heart.

If all of Gail Honeyman’s books are going to be this good, I’ll be reading every single one of them. This book is permanently ingrained into my heart, soul, and mind. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book quite like this, and I fear I never will again. It felt like being in a therapy session that I never wanted to leave because I was learning so much just by reading about Eleanor. Honeyman writes about dealing with the past and facing the future in a way that is so simple yet wise. I’ve never dealt with the kind of childhood or life trauma that Eleanor deals with, but I have experienced the same feelings of not being good enough for the world around you to the point you feel like you need to change yourself to be accepted, while still holding onto those feelings of “I think I’m the only normal person because of how odd society works.” Honeyman pulls these feelings and others into the story at the perfect pace, not too slow that it’s boring, but not rushed that makes it seem unnatural. Even Eleanor’s friendship with Raymond is so perfectly paced just because of their dynamic. I’m never going to get over this book and the feelings it evoked from me. Every interaction in this story is so intentional, which is a refreshing change of pace from my past reads. I listened to the unabridged audiobook version of this story, but I loved it so much I think I’m going to buy a physical copy so I can read it again and annotate/highlight my favorite parts.

What a cute book! It’s one of the books that you want to read the bulk of in a few sittings. I found myself failing to get around to it here and there, and then once I was in, I was hooked. I loved the way the author chose to narrate, and the story is very sweet and I think appeals to a range of ages. Would recommend if you like YA/romantic fiction. I can’t wait to see if there’s a movie adaptation!

Loved the clever narrative of Eleanor. The first part of the book was maybe a bit slow at times but was a real page turner at the end.
