Description

Nestled on a river oxbow in the fertile fields of the Medina River Valley, the historic village of Castroville, Texas features an unique architectural heritage that can only be found in Texas.

Far from a suburb, or a contemporary planned community, and more like  an European village, Castroville features limestone houses (or “huses" in Alsatian) that were built by the Alsatian settlers using the same construction techniques as in their homeland. Their simple “modern” design drew the attention of noted Texas architects David Williams, and O’ Neil Ford for being a major part of the Texas Hill Country vernacular.

This book features historic photographs of Castroville from the archives of architect David Williams, the archives of the Library of Congress, and photos from the past 15 years by Castroville resident
 Robert Ziebell.
