The EU-Japan free trade agreement should be regarded as an indispensible pillar of EU and Japanese trade policy implementation in the 21st century. EU-Japan trade talks have made promising progress in the shadow of highly scrutinized Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership and Transpacific Partnership talks. Should the currently high and possibly expanding ambitions on both sides materialize following the conclusion of the TPP, EU-Japan relations would enter a new era of trade growth and economic cooperation.
